Speaking of having a baby

Speaking of having a baby Dad, I went to the Doctor today. After Alicia wrote and said that she heard her babies heartbeat, and she is due at least a month after me, I decided it was time for me to go see a Doctor. So Jacob and I dropped the boys off at school this morning and then went. He is a wonderful man, and I am confident now that having my baby in Germany is going to be just fine. Although there are going to be some differences.
Disclaimer:
K, if you don't want to hear the details this is where you stop. :)

So, at the Doctors office, after the initial exam, he said he was going to give me an ultrasound. I guess he would rather see the baby then just hear it. So he asks me to walk from one room to another with only my shirt on. It wasn't past where anyone else could see me, but it was still a little strange for me to be walking around like that with the Dr. and the nurse in the room. OK, so then I lay on the bed for the ultrasound, and of course I pull my shirt up past my stomach so he could start. Well, I guess at least on early ultrasounds the camera goes inside of you rather than on your stomach. Wow! That was a surprise. After the initial shock, I got to look at the screen and see the baby and it was so cool. I could see the head and the body and the arms moving. He said the baby is big so either it is going to be a big baby (9 lbs is big and that was the size of all my boys) or I am a week off on my due date. I think the former is probably more correct.

So, all in all it was a good experience that left Jacob a little confused, but me a little excited. The Dr. will be great, and I am now totally convinced that there is a baby inside of me, even if all my usual signs of pregnancy have not reared their ugly head yet. Who knows, maybe my attitude will never become mean and nasty during this pregnancy. Steve certainly would be thrilled. :)

Hurrah! It's a girl. If your pregnancy is so different, I'm sure of it. Also- the practice of vaginal ultrasounds isn't only practiced in Germany. It's alive and well in the USA when you're not that far along. Still- a very big shock.

I love the picture of your baby! It is amazing how much more I can see in this picture than I could in Alicia's, with only about 6 weeks difference. I am sooo happy that you are comfortable with your doctor!

Laura- I wondered if that ultrasound was something they were using in the states as well. It is amazing how much changes when you don't have a baby for 2 years.

At his stage, as you all can see, the baby resembles the Allred side of the Family. In time, though, it will grow to be just as cute as a Hughes baby.

Congratulations Teresa! Oh yeah, and that *fun* kind of ultra sound is practiced in Hawaii as well- not that we aren't part of the US...but sometimes it feels that way. :)

How fun!!

Congrats! I love the pic.

I am sending girl vibes!

As for Steve's comment- You married an Allred so obviously they can't be that bad. I think your wife is rather cute. You can't have your little girl looking like you Steve:)

Yeah, Steve! You can't have a little girl looking like you.....oh wait....I look like you! Hey!!! I must be pretty cute, 'cause John married me! Haha! Anyway, Teresa, with Hannah I had an "up there" ultrasound too. They told me when you're before 12 weeks they go up there. It was a shock for me too. :) But, I too, am sending girl vibes your way!! :)

Kristin, of course your cute. Not as cute as me, because I am a current Hughes, not a ex-Hughes / former Hughes.

Now...

I'm sure that you're all wondering so, Teresa and I have narrowed down a couple of names, tell us what you think. If she looks like an Allred when she is born, we'll call her Anna Mull Hughes or Faye Slift Hughes. Is he looks like an Allred, we'll call him Bob Frapples Hughes or Gus Tofwin Hughes. If SHE looks like a Hughes, we'll call her McKaylah and if HE looks like a Hughes, we'll call him Brandon. Any questions?

Refer them to the owner of the Blizzog, not to me!

The most popular boys name in Bakersfield for two years running is "Angel." So, I recommend that you follow in the Nathan tradition and name your boy Angel Roger Hughes. A girl would be Angel Rogeranne Hughes. Or, Angel Allred Hughes would work for either sex.
On another note, I can hardly wait until Steve gives us a detailed description of his next prostate exam.

Whoa! I should have checked your blog sooner. This is GREAT news! How amazing that you got to see the baby and know that all is well. Thankfully, my doctor has me come as soon as I know I'm pregnant and does a vaginal ultrasound to show me exactly what is happening. We did not hear a heart beat at 6 weeks, we just saw it flickering in the ultrasound. We saw Brie (vaginally) at 5 weeks and just saw that the sack had implanted. Very cool!

I'm very confused by Steve's names. Good luck. How many weeks are you? You probably get to know if you are picking a girls name or a boy's name in a month or so.

You have to read the names Steve wrote out loud to get it. Anna Mull is Animal, Faye Slift is Facelift, Bob Frapples is Bob for Apples,
Gus Tofwin is Gust of Wind. Sometimes he is just too whitty for his own good. What a fun person to be with! :)

This is a great entry!!! Love the dialogue.

Steve kills me. I miss that humor around the dinner table.
